It would appear I'm not the only one that remembers and loves this particular version of "Peter and the Wolf". I too can still picture the cover on the vinyl version. In 1953, when I was 6, my father performed this piece with the Grand Rapids, Michigan symphony. He used this album to practice with.
I am so glad to have found this recording that, right now, I have tears in my eyes. This album is the true standard!

Peter and the wolf/ Stokowski/Rathbone
I too had this recording as a young child. I used to sit on the floor and put my ear right against the speaker of our old RCA Victor console. Also, I can recall perfectly the cover illustration.
Thank you, Mom, wherever you are, for beginning my musical education with this lovely piece!

It is so nice to finally find the Basil Rathbone reading of Peter and the Wolf. I have been looking for this for decades. I have the vinyl version but now have it to play of my iPod. Just wonderful. I used to listen to this over and over when I was a child.

This is terrific, but I remember fondly the Disney animated version of it narrated by the immortal Sterling Holloway. Wasn't that in "MAKE MINE MUSIC" or was it "FANTASIA"? Refresh my memory, someone.

THANKS TO MY BROTHER
FINDING THIS RESTORED PIECE OF MY CHILDHOOD WAS FANTASTIC. iT WAS ACTUALLY USED AS A PUNISHMENT MECHANISM BY MY OLDER BROTHER (17 YEARS AGE DIFFERENCE), WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. UNLIKE MY SISTER, I DEVELOPED AN APPRECIATION FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC. HOWEVER I DECIDED AFTER FINDING THIS TODAY TO REPEAT PUNISHMENT HISTORY FOR MY 6 YEAR OLD GREAT NEWPHEW

Wonderful piece and beautifully restored!
I've always loved "Peter and the Wolf" and I would very much like to use this recording in a film I'm making. However, the creative license is not listed. Isn't this piece in the public domain?
